The Big Rapids Cardinals sweep the Fremont Packers in the Central State Activities Association Gold Division softball doubleheader on Friday.

BIG RAPIDS — It was a no-hitter masterpiece for Big Rapids’ Rylie Haist in a 10-0 six-inning Central State Activities Association Gold Division win over Fremont on Friday. Big Rapids won Game 2 16-1 in four innings against Fremont.

These were Big Rapids’ first two championship games of the season early in the Cardinals’ quest for a league championship.

Haist didn’t allow a walk or hit, and Fremont’s lone baserunner was on an error.

Haist also had three hits and four RBIs while Jaylynn Gray had three hits and three RBIs and Hanna Smith had three hits and RBI. Josie Cornell and Pharis Carroll each had two hits. Emma Daum pulled off a hit.


“I feel like it went well tonight,” Gray said. “We’re playing pretty decent. There are a lot of good defenses I had.

Haist also pitched Game 2 and allowed one run on three hits, walking none and striking out seven.

Carroll had three hits and an RBI while Warren had three hits. Gray had two hits and two RBIs, Haist had two hits and three RBIs, and Smith had two hits and an RBI. Cornell had a hit and an RBI. Makenzie Osoki and Emma Daum had one success each.

“It took a while for our bats to kick in, but overall Rylie Haist did a really good job,” Big Rapids coach Dawn Thompson said. “Defensively, we played well. It was total teamwork. »

“I think it went well,” Carroll said. “I think our energy level could have been higher at the start. But then we got it back.

Big Rapids is 9-1 overall and 2-0 in CSAA Gold and will host Central Montcalm on Tuesday in a league powerhouse showdown.

“They’re the defending champions, so until somebody beats them, they’re on top, I think,” Thompson said. “We will have to be ready to go. We play Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday of next week. It will be a busy week. »
