Central government and state work together to double farmers’ incomes by 2022: Tomar
Minister of Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar said on Tuesday that the Center and state governments are working together to meet the goal of doubling farmers’ incomes by 2022.
In 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has set itself a very ambitious goal of doubling farmers’ incomes by 2022.
In September 2018, an interministerial committee of “Doubling the income of farmers” submitted a report outlining strategies to achieve this goal. Following the approval of the commission’s recommendations, the government established “authorized body” to review and track progress. Tomar said at an event in Goa that the central government has given high priority to agriculture and related activities. Agriculture makes a huge contribution to the country’s GDP, which makes it all the more important to boost the agricultural sector.
“To achieve the prime minister’s goal of doubling farmers’ incomes by 2022, central and state governments as well as farmers across the country are working in unison,” Tomar said in an official statement.. Even during the pandemic, the agricultural industry held up well, with farmers harvesting bumper crops. Despite tourism taking a back seat during the pandemic, the agricultural sector continued to thrive in Goa, he noted.
Highlight central patterns such as PM-KISAN Launched to empower small farmers, Tomar pointed out that the Center encourages the creation of 10,000 Agricultural producer organizations (OPA) by 2027-2028 with a total budgetary investment of Rs.6865 crore, and that this program is “successfully implemented in Goa”.
“Cutting-edge technology and innovative approaches in the sector are attracting young people to agriculture in the state,” Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said at the event. He also urged people to practice integrated agriculture, which includes agriculture, horticulture, dairy farming, fish farming and floriculture.
The event brought together Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar and Chairman of the municipal council of Quepem Suchita Shirwaikar, among others.
