“Central and state governments emphasize empowerment of women”

Women have been honored in Indian society since time immemorial, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said on Tuesday.

He was addressing a rally at a program organized to mark International Women’s Day by Dakshina Kannada (DK) District Administration, Zilla Panchayat (ZP), Karnataka State Commission for Women, Department of Women and Child Development and Jilla Sthree Shakthi Okkuta.

“The central government and the state governments have been emphasizing the empowerment of women,” he added.

Dr. S Kumar, Managing Director of Dakshina Kannada ZP, said that women light the lamp of the world.

Apart from being the mainstay of a family, women have shown their strengths in all walks of life, he said.

Gender equality should not be limited to books alone. It must be implemented through our actions, he added.

An online program on women’s health for 5,000 women under the Panchayat Raj system was organized on the occasion of the Women’s Day celebrations.

Eight children including Neha Bhat from Vivekananda PU College, U Rithwik Pai from Indraprastha Vidyalaya, Amogha Hegde from Alva Central School, Dhrithi Vinay Moily from Rotary Central School, Anagha Rajesh from Lourdes Central School, Mohammed Faraz Ali of Presidency School, Akshaj of NITK English Medium School, and Y Ayush of Canara High School, were awarded the Hoysala and Keladi Chennamma awards at the district level for 2021-2022, in recognition of their talent and achievements extraordinary.

The Anganwadi best worker award went to Gopi, Thirumaleshwari, Mohini, Lakshmi, Amitha Rai and Revathi.

Best Sthree Shakthi Group awards were given to Shanthi SHG from Kashipatna Anganwadi, Sneha Group from Bolubail Anganwadi, Maithri Sthree Shakthi from Babugudde Anganwadi, Navya Sthree Shakthi from Assaigoli Anganwadi, Bhagyasri Sthree Shakthi from Saravu Anganwadi and Vidyasri Sthree Shakthi from Beeriga Anganwadi.

Organized product exhibition

An exhibition and sale of homemade products prepared by women was presented at the Bhavan by Jilla Mahila Congress on Tuesday.

Former MP Shakunthala Shetty opened the exhibit.

Jowar roti, cashew juice, organic products, clothes, masala products among others were exhibited at the exhibition.

Artist Manali caught the attention of onlookers with the dot painting.
